| Application: | Magnesium sulfate heptahydrate has been used: • in the preparation of Scott′s tap water substitute as a bluing reagent for nuclear staining • as a component of stabilization solution for the isolation of pituitary cells for matrix-assisted laser desorption/ionization mass spectroscopy (MALDI-MS) • as an additive in the preparation of artificial sea water for the maintenance of Aplysia californica and in modified Gey′s balanced salt solution |
| General description: | Magnesium sulfate have anti-convulsant, anti-inflammatory and vasodilatory properties. Magnesium sulfate relaxes smooth muscles. In acute asthma patient, both intravenous and nebulization of magnesium sulfate as an additive improves pulmonary function. Magnesium sulfate reduces preterm labor in high risk pregnant women. Magnesium sulfate heptahydrate serves as a source of Mg2+ ions in plant tissue culture medium, and protoplast culture medium. |
