Amino Acid Sequence: Tyr-Gly-Ser-Leu-Pro-Gln-Lys-Ser-Gln-Arg-Ser-Gln-Asp-Glu-Asn
Application: Myelin Basic Protein Guinea Pig Fragment 68-82 has been used for lymphocyte activation in human blood samples. It has also been used as a component of the incomplete Freund′s adjuvant for the induction of autoimmune encephalomyelitis in rats.
Biochem/physiol Actions: Myelin Basic Protein (MBP) is known as an executive molecule of myelin as it is a structural protein that is required for the formation of central nervous system (CNS) myelin. It participates in the adhesion of the cytosolic surfaces of the multi-layered compact myelin. MBP binds with several polyanionic proteins such as tubulin, actin, clathrin, and Ca2+-calmodulin. It binds to several negatively charged lipids on the cytosolic surface of oligodendrocyte membranes and plays a role in the adhesion of these surfaces in the multilayered myelin sheath.
Biochem/physiol Actions: Myelin basic protein fragment that induces experimental allergic encephalomyelitis.
General description: Myelin Basic Protein (MBP) is the second most abundant protein available in the central nervous system (CNS) myelin. It belongs to the intrinsically disordered or conformationally adaptable protein family.
