Immunofluorescence
Tissue stained with Monoclonal Anti-MAP2 (Cat. No. M4403). Rat brain sections were stained with Monoclonal Anti-MAP2 (Cat. No. M4403, Clone No. HM-2). Slide shows staining in the hilar region of rat hippocampus.

Immunofluorescence Monoclonal Anti-MAP2: Cat. No. M4403: Human-induced pluripotent stem cell derived neural precursors rapidly differentiated into neurons (red, MAP2) when co-cultured with GFP positive neural cells (green) derived from postnatal Mouse brain. Nuclei are stained with DAPI (blue). Submitted by Dr S. Chintawar, Universite Libre de Bruxelles.
Western Blotting Whole extract of rat brain was separated on SDS-PAGE and probed with 1:1,000 Monoclonal Anti-MAP2 antibody produced in Mouse, Clone: HM-2 (Cat. No. M4403). Lanes 1. 1:1,000 antibody 2. Negative Control

western blot: 1:1,000 using a fresh total rat brain extract or an enriched microtubule protein preparation
UniProt accession no. P11137
Application: Monoclonal Anti-MAP2 (2a+2b) antibody has been used in immunohistochemistry, immunostaining and western blotting.
Biochem/physiol Actions: Microtubule-associated protein 2 (MAP2) interacts with microtubules to maintain the structure of dendrites. It plays a major role in supporting the actin cytoskeleton in spines, binding and nucleating filamentous actin (f-actin) to modulate spine morphology.
Biochem/physiol Actions: Reacts with all known forms of MAP2, namely MAP2a, MAP2b and MAP2c. Does not cross-react with other MAPs or tubulin. By immunohistochemical staining of formalin-fixed, paraffin-embedded brain tissue, the antibody shows selective labeling of dendritic trees throughout the brain.

General description: Microtubule-associated protein 2 (MAP2) is a neuronal protein. It belongs to the MAP2/Tau family. This gene is located to human chromosome 2q34-q35. MAP2 is present in neurons. MAP2 is the major microtubule-associated protein of brain tissue. There are three forms of MAP2; two are similarly sized with apparent molecular weights of 280kDa (MAP2a and MAP2b) and the third with a lower molecular weight of 70kDa (MAP2c).
Immunogen: rat brain microtubule-associated proteins (MAPs).
Physical form: Supplied as ascites fluid with 15 mM sodium azide as a preservative.
Preparation Note: For continuous use, store at 2-8 °C for up to one month. For extended storage, the solution may be frozen in working aliquots. Repeated freezing and thawing, or storage in "frost-free" freezers, is not recommended. If slight turbidity occurs upon prolonged storage, clarify the solution by centrifugation before use.
