Application: 3-Methyladenine (3-MA) is used to inhibit and study the mechanism of autophagy (lysosomal self-degradation) and apoptosis under various conditions. 3-MA inhibits autophagy by blocking autophagosome formation via the inhibition of type III Phosphatidylinositol 3-kinases (PI-3K). For use as an autophagy inhibitor, 3-MA is typically used at a concentration of 5 mM.
Application: 3-Methyladenine has been used as an autophagy inhibitor:
• to determine the expressions of autophagy-related genes (Beclin 1, light chain 3 (LC3) and p62) using the transfected human bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells (BM-MSCs)
• with cisplatin to study the inhibition of autophagy influenced cisplatin-induced apoptosis in A2780cp cells
• to study the interplay between colistin-induced autophagy and apoptosis

Application: Standard for detection of nucleic acid methylation during carcinogenesis.
Biochem/physiol Actions: 3-Methyladenine (3-MA) is used to inhibit and study the mechanism of autophagy (lysosomal self-degradation) and apoptosis under various conditions. 3-MA inhibits autophagy by blocking autophagosome formation via the inhibition of type III phosphatidylinositol 3-kinases (PI-3K).
