| Biochem/physiol Actions: | SILu™Prot CCL2 is a recombinant, stable isotope-labeled human CCL2 which incorporates [13C6, 15N4]-Arginine and [13C6, 15N2]-Lysine. Expressed in human 293 cells, it is designed to be used as an internal standard for bioanalysis of CCL2 in mass-spectrometry. SILu Prot CCL2 is a homodimer consisting of 96 amino acids (including C-terminal polyhistidine and FLAG® tags), with a calculated molecular mass of 11 kDa. |
| General description: | CCL2, the most thoroughly characterized CC chemokine, is a monocyte-specific chemoattractant that was demonstrated to attract T lymphocytes and NK cells, but not neutrophils. Enhanced expression of CCL2 was demonstrated in a variety of pathologic conditions, associated with inflammation and mononuclear cell infiltration. Extensive experimental evidence suggests that CCL2 is highly expressed in atherosclerotic plaques. In a recent study, CCL2 was shown to have value as a biomarker for risk stratification in both the initial and the chronic phases after an acute coronary syndromes (ACS). In contrast to CRP, CCL2 levels may be an indicator of long-term cardiovascular risk rather than a marker of acute prognosis. In urine, CCL2 levels were directly associated to Systemic Lupus Erythematosus disease activity, making it a non-invasive biomarker (avoiding blood sampling or tissue biopsies). |
