| Biochem/physiol Actions: | Osteopontin (OPN) serves as a ligand to a number of integrin receptors which are associated with cell motility, chemotaxis, invasion and cell survival. Upregulation of OPN gene is observed in tumors such as colorectal carcinomas, breast cancer and contributes to its pathogenesis. OPN is associated with obesity by mediating adipocyte inflammation and insulin resistance upon macrophage activation. OPN functions as an effector molecule in extracellular signalling and promotes fibrosis and myocyte growth. |
