Application:	Thyrotropin-releasing hormone has been used as a media supplement to study its effects on stimulating the secretion of prolactin (PRL) from somatolactotroph GH3 cells by enzyme immunometric assay. It has also been used to study its effects on the regulation of energy homeostasis in the central nervous system (CNS) in response to essential amino-acid deprivation.

TRH expressed in pancreatic β cells aids in the positive regulation of insulin secretion.
