| Biochem/physiol Actions: | Folate receptor 1 (FOLR1) plays a vital role in folate transport across the blood–brain barrier through the choroid plexus. It is also essential for neural tube closure during embryogenesis. Mutation in the gene leads to the development of cerebral folate deficiency in a few families. Overexpression of the gene has been observed in some epithelial malignancies including medulloblastoma, ovarian, lung and breast carcinomas. FOLR1 acts as a potential biomarker and therapeutic target for medulloblastoma. |
