| Biochem/physiol Actions: | Galectin is a β-galactoside-binding secretory protein, which also has a carbohydrate-recognition domain. Galectin contributes to cancer progression by interacting with oncogenic proteins on the cell surface, such as integrins, fibronectin and laminin. Galectin is also known to suppress immune response in conditions such as melanoma, neuroblastoma and pancreatic carcinoma. |
