Biochem/physiol Actions: Sorbitan sesquioleate is useful as a stabilizing agent in polymerization process to produce spherical acrylamide beads. It has been used in many topical agents. SSO have recently been implicated in allergic dermatitis.
General description: Sorbitan sesquioleate (SSO) is a sorbitol derivative emulsifier. It is a common emulsifier component in topical corticosteroids, topical antibiotics, topical antifungals, moisturizing creams and lotions and topical retinoids.
