| Biochem/physiol Actions: | Cytochrome c1 (CYC1) stimulates oxidative phosphorylation activity in human ductal carcinoma in- situ (DCIS) and thus, plays an essential role in cell proliferation and comedo necrosis. CYC1 expression is implicated in breast cancer progression and might act as a predictive factor for poor prognosis in breast cancer patients. Variation in the gene expression leads to mitochondrial complex III deficiency. |

| General description: | Cytochrome c1 (CYC1) is a heme-containing constituent of mitochondrial complex III. It is encoded by the gene mapped to human chromosome 8q24.3. The encoded protein is attached to the phospholipid bilayer by a single C-proximal transmembrane segment. |
