It may play a role in tumor cell metastasis. It may also function in the protection, maintenance, and adhesion of the lysosome. Alternative splicing of this gene results in multiple transcript variants encoding distinct proteins. (provided by RefSeq) Lysosome-associated membrane protein 2 (LAMP2) is expressed in the lysosomal lumen and membrane. In the tumor microenvironment, it is found to be present in the plasma membrane. The gene encoding this protein is localized on human chromosome Xq24. |
