| Biochem/physiol Actions: | Phosphoglycerate kinase 1 (PGK1) converts 1, 3-diphosphoglycerate to 3-phosphoglycerate. Mitochondrial PGK1 phosphorylates pyruvate dehydrogenase kinase 1. PGK1 may have a role in rheumatoid arthritis. The protein is upregulated in various cancers. It is regulated by hypoxia-inducible factor-1α. It also has a role in DNA repair and angiogenesis. Deficiency of the enzyme is linked to combinations of hemolytic anemia, neurological dysfunction and myopathy. |
