| Biochem/physiol Actions: | Early growth response 2 (EGR2) is essential for peripheral nerve myelination and T cell anergy. It is also needed for the formation of gap junction beta 1 (GJB1) and periaxin along with other myelin proteins. Mutations in the EGR2 gene are implicated in peripheral neuropathies namely Charcot-Marie-Tooth disease type 1 (CMT1), congenital hypomyelinating neuropathy (CHN), and Dejerine-Sottas neuropathy (DSN/CMT). EGR2 upregulation may regulate inflammatory cytokines during recovery from Guillain-Barré syndrome (GBS). |
