| Biochem/physiol Actions: | The gene DDX42 (DEAD-box helicase 42) encodes a component of 17S U2 snRNP splicing complex. It is found to associate with the Japanese encephalitis virus (JEV) NS4A (nonstructural protein 4A) protein. This interaction inhibits the stimulation of an innate immune response to JEV infection. The C-terminal tail of the protein interacts with ASPP2 (apoptosis-stimulating protein of p53 2) and regulates its apoptosis-stimulating properties. |
| General description: | This gene encodes a member of the Asp-Glu-Ala-Asp (DEAD) box protein family. Members of this protein family are putative RNA helicases, and are implicated in a number of cellular processes involving alteration of RNA secondary structure such as translation initiation, nuclear and mitochondrial splicing, and ribosome and spliceosome assembly. Members of this family are believed to be involved in embryogenesis, spermatogenesis, and cellular growth and division.
