| Biochem/physiol Actions: | FBXO42 (F-box protein 42) works in the ubiquitin-proteasome system and is involved in protein degradation. It mainly participates in the assembly of the SCF (skp, cullin, F-box containing) complex. FBXO42 is responsible for the ubiquitination and subsequent degradation of p53. It is also involved in the ubiquitination and degradation of ING4 (inhibitor of growth family member 4), thereby enhancing angiogenesis and metastasis of breast cancer. FBXO42 might be associated with Parkinson′s disease (PD). |
| General description: | Members of the F-box protein family, such as FBXO42, are characterized by an approximately 40-amino acid F-box motif. SCF complexes, formed by SKP1 (MIM 601434), cullin (see CUL1; MIM 603134), and F-box proteins, act as protein-ubiquitin ligases. F-box proteins interact with SKP1 through the F box, and they interact with ubiquitination targets through other protein interaction domains (Jin et al., 2004 [PubMed 15520277]).[supplied by OMIM |
