| Biochem/physiol Actions: | Solute carrier family 22 member 6 (SLC22A6) is involved in the sodium-dependent transport and excretion of organic anions, some of which are potentially toxic. The encoded protein is an integral membrane protein and may be localized to the basolateral membrane. Four transcript variants encoding four different isoforms have been found for this gene. SLC22A6 regulates the body disposition of a variety of clinically important drugs, such as, anti-HIV therapeutics, antitumor drugs, antibiotics, antihypertensives and anti-inflammatories. Ubiquitination sites of SLC22A6 is involved in the protein kinase C (PKC)-mediated endocytosis of the transporter. It plays an important role in substrate recognition. |
