| Biochem/physiol Actions: | Secreted Frizzled-related protein 1 (SFRP1) is a secreted inhibitor of Wnt signaling pathway. DNA damage or oxidative stress causes cellular senescence, which leads to the overexpression of sfrp1. This protein induces senescence phenotypes via the inactivation of Wnt signaling and activation of the retinoblastoma (Rb) pathway. Mutations or aberrant methylation in this gene impair the induction of senescence in several cancers, including breast cancer, bladder cancer, and colorectal tumorigenesis. |
