| Biochem/physiol Actions: | Dopamine-β-hydroxylase (DBH) protein plays a role in the conversion of dopamine to noradrenaline. This protein is implicated in various disorders such as Huntington′s chorea, hypertension, Parkinson′s, and smoking disorders. DBH protein is also implicated in heart failure and mental disorders like depression, Tourette syndrome, and schizophrenia. Lower levels of DHB plasma are seen in patients with bipolar disorders and unipolar psychotic depression. Higher levels of DBH plasma are observed in patients with severe depression. |
