| Biochem/physiol Actions: | ELOVL7 catalyses the elongation of long chain fatty acids, preferably saturated long chain fatty acids. Elovl7 exhibited activity towards C16-C20 acyl coenzyme A with maximum affinity towards carbon length of C18. Elovl7 expression is regulated by sterol regulatory element-binding protein 1 (SREBP1) and also by other lipogenic enzymes. The expression levels of Elovl7 is higher in prostate cancer leading to its progression. |
