| Biochem/physiol Actions: | Transmembrane 4 L6 family member 1 (TM4SF1) has a novel function in androgen receptor (AR) signaling. Its mRNA expression is higher in prostate cancer tissues as compared to benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH). It is found to contribute to prostate cancer cell metastasis. The TM4SF1 gene serves as a molecular organizer that interacts with membrane and cytoskeleton-associated proteins. It uniquely initiates the formation of nanopodia and facilitates cell polarization and migration. TM4SF1 also regulates tumor cell motility and invasiveness. It is abundant on the plasma membrane and on intracellular vesicles. |
