Biochem/physiol Actions: The J-chain of the multimeric IgM (immunoglobulin M) structure is responsible for secretion at the mucosal surfaces. The pentameric form of IgM, has a greater affinity towards antigens (with multiple repeating epitopes) compared to the monomers. IgM pentamer enables better opsonization of antigens for destruction and fixing complement.
Biochem/physiol Actions: This product was prepared from monospecific antiserum by a delipidation and defibrination. Assay by immunoelectrophoresis resulted in a single precipitin arc against Bovine IgM and Bovine Serum. No reaction was observed against Bovine IgG F(ab’)2 or Bovine IgG F(c).

General description: Antibody format: Antiserum
General description: During the B-cell development, IgM (immunoglobulin M) is the first expressed antibody. It is present as a monomer on the surface of naive B cells. Antigenic stimulation and upon maturation, the monomeric IgM units (190kDa), are linked by disulfide bonds to form a pentameric immunoglobulin structure. It also but rarely forms a hexameric structure. The pentameric IgM is linked by a disulfide bond, a polypeptide chain and a J-chain. The μ -chain consists of five domains- VH, Cμ1, Cμ2, Cμ3 and Cμ4.
Immunogen: Bovine IgM mu heavy chain
Physical form: Supplied in 0.02 M Potassium Phosphate, 0.15 M Sodium Chloride, pH 7.2
Preparation Note: Reconstitute with 1.0 mL deionized water (or equivalent).
