| Biochem/physiol Actions: | Coronin 1A (Coronin-1A) plays a vital role in F-actin stabilization in vitro. It is also involved in phagocytosis by neutrophils and macrophages and in T-cell receptor (TCR)-mediated activation of T lymphocytes. Additionally, it is also implicated in the regulation of activate actin-related protein-2/3 (Arp2/3)-dependent processes. Mutation in the gene has been observed in T cell-deficient, B cell- and natural killer (NK) cell-sufficient (T?B+NK+) severe combined immunodeficiency (SCID) patients. |
| Biochem/physiol Actions: | Coronin-1A also plays a vital role in regulation of leukocyte specific signaling. In T-lymphocytes, coronin-1A facilitates the association of cytoskeleton dynamics to TCRαβ induced cell signaling, chemokine-mediated cell migration and homeostasis. Loss of coronin-1A gene expression in murine T cells leads to reduced ability to respond to chemotactic gradient and decrease in peripheral T cells due to apoptosis. |

The encoded 57kDa protein, belongs to the coronin family and is mainly expressed in hematopoietic cells. Coronin family of proteins are characterized with a highly conserved N-terminal extension (NE), five canonical WD40 repeats, a C-terminal conserved extension (CE), followed by a unique region (U), and ends with a C-terminal coiled-coil (CC) domain. |
