| Biochem/physiol Actions: | Special AT-rich sequence-binding protein 1 (SATB1) is a tumor promotor gene that plays an important role in regulating gene expression. The SATB1 known to be involved in organizing higher-order chromatin structure including the subnuclear organization of individual genes within multigene clusters in a tissue specific manner, locally and at a distance. It controls the global chromatin architecture via promyelocytic leukemia protein (PML). SATB1 also regulates the periodic anchoring of matrix attachment regions (MARs) in DNA to the nuclear matrix. This organizes chromatin into distinct loops. Furthermore, SATB1 recruits co-repressor complexes to its binding sites. SATB1 is abnormally expressed in human metastatic breast cancer and also promotes breast cancer tumor growth and metastasis. It is involved in the tumorigenesis of colorectal, coetaneous malignant melanoma and lung cancers. SATB1 also serves as a possible prognostic marker. |

| General description: | Monoclonal Anti-SATB1 (mouse IgG2a isotype) is derived from the hybridoma SAT-5 produced by the fusion of mouse myeloma cells and splenocytes from BALB/c mice immunized with a synthetic peptide corresponding to a sequence at the N-terminus of human special AT-rich sequence-binding protein 1 (SATB1), conjugated to keyhole limpet hemocyanin (KLH). SATB1 encodes as nuclear matrix protein that interacts with scaffold-associating DNA. SATB1 gene is mapped to human chromosome 3p24.3. |
