| Biochem/physiol Actions: | Knockdown of CREB (cAMP response element-binding protein) blocks the development and promotes apoptosis in pre-B acute lymphoblastic leukemia cells by preventing prosurvival signals. It controls the transcription of antiapoptotic proteins in several cell types. Decrease in CREB phosphorylation leads to malfunction of mitochondria and hypoxia-induced apoptosis in chondrocytes. |

It belongs to the basic leucine zipper family of transcription factors. It is upregulated abundantly in human tissues and is located on chromosome 2q33–35. |
