| Biochem/physiol Actions: | Specific protein 1 (Sp1) controls the up- and down-regulation of hCtr1 (human high-affinity copper transporter 1). It controls the expression of several genes that participates in differentiation, cell cycle and oncogenesis. It has the ability to bind GC/GT‐rich promoter elements with the help of C(2)H(2)‐type zinc fingers at the C‐terminal domain. |

| General description: | Specific protein 1 (Sp1) is a transcription regulator that has a transactivation domain at the N-terminus and a DNA-binding domain at the C-terminus, that contain three zinc fingers (ZF). It belongs to transcription factor family and is located on chromosome 12q13. |
| General description: | Transcription factor that can activate or repress transcription in response to physiological and pathological stimuli. Binds with high affinity to GC-rich motifs and regulates the expression of a large number of genes involved in a variety of processes such as cell growth, apoptosis, differentiation and immune responses. Highly regulated by post-translational modifications (phosphorylations, sumoylation, proteolytic cleavage, glycosylation and acetylation). Binds also the PDGFR-alpha G-box promoter. May have a role in modulating the cellular response to DNA damage. Implicated in chromatin remodeling. Plays a role in the recruitment of SMARCA4/BRG1 on the c-FOS promoter. Plays an essential role in the regulation of FE65 gene expression. |
