| Biochem/physiol Actions: | MPC1 (mitochondrial pyruvate carrier 1) is a key player in pyruvate metabolism. It transports pyruvate into the inner mitochondrial matrix. Lowered MPC1 expression, elevates glycolysis due to a shift in metabolism to fatty acid oxidation. This accounts for the pathogenesis of cancer and other diseases. Downregulation of this gene is observed in colon adenocarcinoma. |
