Biochem/physiol Actions: PTH (parathyroid hormone) significantly maintains calcium and phosphate homeostasis. The function of PTH is brought about by PTH receptor, a G protein-coupled receptor. Upregulation of PTH is observed in hyperparathyroidism, which leads to hypertension, bone and cardiovascular disease. PTH is also known to improve fracture healing.
