Immunohistochemistry Anti-Synaptophysin: Cat. No. SAB4502906: Immunohistochemistry analysis of paraffin-embedded human brain tissue using Anti-Synaptophysin antibody. Cells on the left were treated with the Anti-Synaptophysin antibody. Cells on the right (negative control) were treated with both Anti-Synaptophysin antibody and the synthesized immunogen peptide.
Western Blotting Anti-Synaptophysin: Cat. No. SAB4502906: Immunoblotting analysis of extracts from LOVO cells, using Anti-Synaptophysin antibody. The lane on the left was treated with the Anti-Synaptophysin antibody. The lane on the right (negative control) was treated with both Anti-Synaptophysin antibody and the synthesized immunogen peptide.

Biochem/physiol Actions: Synaptophysin (SYP) modulates neurotransmitter release and synaptic plasticity. It maintains biogenesis and recycling of synaptic vesicles. SYP functions as a marker for neuroendocrine tumors. It is used as a potent marker for neuroendocrine prostate cancer (NEPC). Mutations in this gene is associated with X-linked intellectual disability.

General description: Synaptophysin (SYP) is an integral membrane protein of synaptic vesicles. It is expressed in cortical synaptic terminals, during neurogenesis. The gene is located on human chromosome Xp11.23.
General description: Synaptophysin is an integral membrane glycoprotein that is localized in presynaptic vesicles of nerve cells. This protein may regulate exocytosis and the formation of synaptic vesicles . Synaptophysin is encoded by the SYP gene and genetic alterations in SYP can lead to mental retardation . Anti-synaptophysin antibody specifically detects endogenous levels of total synaptophysin protein.
Immunogen: The antiserum was produced against synthesized peptide derived from human Synaptophysin.

Immunogen Range: 101-150
Physical form: Rabbit IgG in phosphate buffered saline (without Mg2+ and Ca2+), pH 7.4, 150mM NaCl, 0.02% sodium azide and 50% glycerol.
