| Biochem/physiol Actions: | Extracellular signal-regulated kinase 8 (ERK8)/mitogen-activated protein (MAP) kinase 15 aids in maintaining the integrity of the genome. Anaplastic thyroid carcinoma cells show high expression of MAPK15. It controls telomerase reverse transcriptase (hTERT) mRNA expression to regulate telomerase activity. It is highly essential to control the generation of reactive oxygen species. MAPK15 also plays a role in stabilizing proliferating cell nuclear antigen protein. MAPK15 might be involved in the progression of human cancer. Hence it might act as a candidate as an attractive target for cancer therapy. |
