| Biochem/physiol Actions: | PER2 (period circadian regulator 2) possess a physiological and pathological control over the mammalian circadian clock. Abnormal expression of PER2 gene leads to the development of a variety of cancer. Loss of PER2 gene function is observed in the onset of oral squamous cell carcinoma. PER2 might act as an essential biomarker for the same. The reciprocal negative regulation loop of PER2 modulates hepatic circadian clock and the process of aging. PER2 is associated with the pathogenesis of rheumatoid arthritis. |
