| Biochem/physiol Actions: | CD1a acts as a potential target for treatment against inflammatory skin diseases. The encoded protein functions as a phenotypic marker of human epidermal Langerhans cells (LC). CD1a mediates the presentation of lipids to induce T cell activation resulting in the production of interleukin-22 (IL-22), IL-13 and interferon (IFN)γ. |

| General description: | CD1a molecule is a lipid-presenting protein, which is highly expressed on Langerhans cells. It belongs to the CD1 protein family and is encoded by the gene mapped to human chromosome 1. |
| General description: | The antibody HI149 reacts with CD1a (T6), a 49 KDa polypeptide associated with beta2-microglobulin expressed on cortical thymocytes (strongly), Langerhans cells, dendritic cells and some T cell leukemias and lymphomas. The antibody does not react with peripheral blood T and B lymphocytes, monocytes, granulocytes, platelets and erythrocytes. |
