| General description: | Human leukocyte antigen (HLA)-DR is a member of HLA class II molecules. It is encoded by the gene mapped to human chromosome 6.(21} HLA class II molecules are highly expressed on B-Iymphocytes, but is also found at minimal levels on T-Iymphocytes, macrophages, thymus epithelial cells and selected cells of various body tissues. HLA-DR consists of a non-polymorphic α chain gene and up to three distinct highly polymorphic β chain genes. |
