Biochem/physiol Actions: Cevimeline is a muscarinic M1 and M3 receptor agonist. Cevimeline stimulates secretion by the salivary glands and is used to treat the symptoms of dry mouth.
Biochem/physiol Actions: Cevimeline stimulates the peripheral muscarinic acetylcholine receptors of salivary glands and increases the concentration of Ca+2 in parotic acini and duct cells of rats. It thus acts as therapeutic agent for xerostomia.
