Biochem/physiol Actions: Procarbazine is an antineoplastic alkylating agent widely used in cancer chemotherapy in combination with other compounds. It has multiple mechanisms of action. Procarbazine inhibits protein, RNA and DNA synthesis in addition to being an alkylating agent.
Biochem/physiol Actions: Procarbazine is metabolized to azoprocarbazine either by cytochrome P450 enzyme and monoamine oxidase in an NADPH (nicotinamide adenine diphosphate) dependent or independent manner. It is considered neurotoxic. Procarbazine is used in combination with therapy for treating Hodgkin′s disease.
