General description: | Sodium phenylbutyrate stimulates urinary nitrogen excretion. It is a prodrug, which undergoes β-oxidation to phenylacetate. Sodium phenylbutyrate is used to treat urea cycle disorder. It might be associated with menstrual dysfunction, amenorrhea and painful mucositis of the esophagus and stomach. |
