| Biochem/physiol Actions: | β-defensin-3 (BD-3) associates with bacterial products which reduce the effect of inflammatory cytokine responses. The protein has been shown to stimulate the production of interferon-α and activate monocytes through toll-like receptors 1 and 2. It antagonizes the activation of C-X-C motif chemokine receptor 4 (CXCR4). |
