| Application: | VEGF-C human has been used to determine cell proliferation and survival. |
| Biochem/physiol Actions: | VEGF-C (vascular endothelial growth factor-C) promotes tumorigenesis, by inducing lymphatic metastasis. The production of VEGF-C is stimulated by pro-fibrotic transforming growth factor β. The main function of VEGF-C is to mediate lymphangiogenesis. Overexpression of VEGF-C in keratinocytes of skin causes dermal lymphatic vessel hyperplasia. |
| General description: | The recombinant VEGF-C (vascular endothelial growth factor-C) is a 125 amino acid protein that lacks the N-terminal signal peptide (from T103 to R227 of Gene Bank U58111). Human VEGF-C exhibits about 85% homology with mouse VEGF-C. The VEGFC gene is mapped to human chromosome 4q34.3. |
