Biochem/physiol Actions: | Pentraxin 3 (PTX3) is an acute phase protein produced and released at inflammatory sites by diverse cell types including monocytes/macrophages, endothelial cells, vascular smooth muscle cells, fibroblasts, and adipocytes. It plays a role in the regulation of innate resistance to pathogens, inflammatory reactions, possibly clearance of self-components and female fertility. PTX3 particularly functions as a soluble pathogen recognition receptor and confers resistance against pathogens. Studies indicate that the protein removes apoptotic cells during immune responses. It associates with complement factor H, which is a complement regulator protein. |
General description: | Pentraxin 3 (PTX3) or tumor necrosis factor (TNF)-stimulated gene is the prototypic member of the long pentraxin family sharing the C-terminal domain with short pentraxins and containing a unique N-terminal domain. The gene encoding this protein is localized on human chromosome 3q25.32 and consists of 3 exons. Recombinant human Pentraxin 3 protein, fused to His-tag at N-terminus, was expressed in E.coli and purified by using conventional chromatography. |
