Biochem/physiol Actions: | LCN2 (lipocalin 2) functions as a biomarker for various inflammatory disorders as well as cancers. It is also thought to be involved in resistance to drug-mediated apoptosis. It interacts with matrix metalloproteinase-9 and promotes invasion, and it also facilitates tumor growth and is linked with poor prognosis. In lung adenocarcinoma this protein facilitates epithelial to mesenchymal transition (EMT), and hence, promotes metastasis and tumorigenesis, which is repealed by BRM270, an NFκB inhibitor (nuclear factor). Urine levels of LCN2 increase post-nephrotoxic and ischemic insult. In patients undergoing off pump coronary bypass surgery (OPCAB), this protein functions as an early biomarker for acute kidney injury. |
Biochem/physiol Actions: | Lipocalin-2 (LCN2) has been implicated in a variety of processes including cell differentiation, tumorigenesis, and apoptosis. Polymorphisms in the expression of LCN2 are associated with many cancers such as breast, colorectal, pancreatic, ovarian, gastric, thyroid, ovarian, bladder and kidney cancers. |
General description: | LCN2 (lipocalin 2), also known as oncogene 24p3, uterocalin, siderocalin, is a 24kDa secreted glycoprotein. It was initially identified in a mouse kidney cell culture infected with simian virus 40 (SV-40). It is a member of the transporter protein family called lipocalins which transport small, hydrophobic ligands. |
General description: | Lipocalin-2 (LCN2), a secreted glycoprotein, is an adipokine. It is expressed in various cells like respiratory cells, intestinal epithelial cells, endothelial cells, renal tubular cells and cardiomyocytes. The gene LCN2 is located on human chromosome 9q34. |
Physical form: | Lyophilized from 0.22 μm filtered solution in PBS, pH 7.4. Normally Mannitol or Trehalose is added as protectants before lyophilization. |
Reconstitution: | Centrifuge the vial prior to opening. Reconstitute in sterile PBS, pH 7.4 to a concentration of 50 μg/mL. Do not vortex. This solution can be stored at 2-8°C for up to 1 month. For extended storage, it is recommended to store at -20°C. |
