Application: The interaction of Trifluperidol hydrochloride with NMDA receptors was studied in rat brain buffy coat membranes.
Biochem/physiol Actions: Trifluperidol is a dopamine receptor antagonist with antipsychotic effects used in the treatment of schizophrenia. This neuroleptic penetrates the brain and also affects the glial cells leading to increased release of proinflammatory cytokines. It also alters the metabolism of carbohydrates and amino acids in the brain cortex.
