| Application: | Taurine is a derivative of the sulfur-containing (sulfhydryl) amino acid cysteine. Taurine is one of the few known naturally occurring sulfonic acids. It is a conditionally essential sulfonated amino acid which modulates apoptosis in some cells; functions in many metabolic activities; a product of methionine and cysteine metabolism. It can be used as a cell culture media component for the commercial biomanufacture of therapeutic recombinant proteins and monoclonal antibodies. |
| Biochem/physiol Actions: | Non-selective endogenous agonist at glycine receptors. |
