General description: The vascular endothelial growth factor family consists of five members, VEGF-A to VEGF-E. VEGF-B has a structure that is similar to VEGF-A and the placenta growth factor. It is highly expressed in most tissues and organs and most abundantly in heart. VEGF-B binds and signals via the VEGFR-1 receptor and neuropilin-1 coreceptor. Even though it belongs to the family of growth factors that induce angiogenesis and are necessary for formation of vasculature, VEGF-B differs in acting as a survival factor and less of angiogenic factor. The survival effect is pleotropic and also affects neurons, vascular cells and cardiac myocytes. There are two isoforms of VEGF-B that result from alternate splicing, VEGF-B 167 and VEGF-B 186. VEGF-B 167 binds heparin and is associated with extracellular matrix whereas VEGF-B 186 is a secreted form. Anti-Human Vascular Endothelial Growth Factor B recognizes human VEGF-B 167 and human VEGF-B 186. The antibody shows approximately 30% cross reactivity with recombinant mouse VEGF-B 165 and VEGF-B 186. It exhibits less than 5% cross reactivity with recombinant human VEGF-D and no cross reactivity with recombinant human VEGF and recombinant mouse VEGF.
Immunogen: recombinant human vascular endothelial growth factor B 186 expressed in E. coli. Purified by passing goat sera over a human VEGF-B 186 affinity column and then passing the bound fraction over a human VEGF-B 167 affinity column.
Physical form: Lyophilized from a 2 μm filtered solution in phosphate buffered saline.
