| Biochem/physiol Actions: | Vesicular glutamate transporters (vGluT) play a vital role in the transport of glutamate into secretory vesicles. They are also used as a specific markers to recognize glutamatergic neurons. vGluT2 is considered to be a potent target for reducing glutamatergic neurotransmission. Thus, vGluT2 could be useful for the treatment of neurodegenerative diseases in which chronic excessive glutamate signaling has been involved. It is also used for treating epilepsy and pain. |
