| Biochem/physiol Actions: | P2RX5 (Purinergic receptor P2X, ligand-gated ion channel, 5) functions as a ATP-gated ion channel. In humans, it is predicted to form trimeric structure with another member of this family, P2X1. Upregulated P2RX5 expression has been observed during CD4+ T cell activation. It has been studied that activated P2RX5 plays an important role in the T cell polarity and immunoregulation, when it is recruited to the surface of the activated CD4+ T cells. |
| General description: | The product of this gene belongs to the family of purinoceptors for ATP. This receptor functions as a ligand-gated ion channel. Several characteristic motifs of ATP-gated channels are present in its primary structure, but, unlike other members of the purinoceptors family, this receptor has only a single transmembrane domain. Three transcript variants encoding distinct isoforms have been identified for this gene. (provided by RefSeq) |
