| Biochem/physiol Actions: | Trefoil factor family (TFF) members play a vital role in mucus stabilization and stimulation of normal epithelial cell restitution during wound healing via mitogenic and antiapoptotic activities. TFF1 prevents anoikis, chemicals or bad-induced apoptosis by decreasing the caspase-3, caspase-6, caspase-8, and caspase-9 activities. TFF1 functions as a tumor suppressor in gastric cancer, whereas it acts as a tumor promoter in mucinous ovarian cancer via regulating the Wnt/β-catenin signaling pathway. Elevated level of TFF1 is observed in patients suffering from chronic kidney disease (CKD). TFF1 might function as a biomarker for early detection of CKD. |
