Biochem/physiol Actions: | CDHR2 (cadherin-related family member 2), also known as protocadherin-LKC, consists of seven cadherin motifs or EC domain with negatively charged Ca2+ dependent homophilic-binding domains. It is mainly involved in the maintenance of cell-tissue morphology and polarity. It has been reported that the expression of CDHR2 actuates cell aggregation capacity, followed by direct cell-cell interaction. CDHR2 has additionally been documented as a potential tumor silencer gene for the colon and liver malignancies. |

General description: | This gene is a member of the protocadherin family, which represents a subset of the larger cadherin superfamily. The members of the protocadherin family encode non-classical cadherins that function as calcium-dependent cell-cell adhesion molecules. The kidney-expressed gene product has a signal peptide, nine cadherin repeat domains and a unique cytoplasmic region. This protocadherin represents a new candidate for tumor suppression.
