| General description: | Triton™ X-100 reduced is a versatile nonionic surfactant featuring a hydrophilic polyethylene oxide chain, commonly employed as a laboratory detergent. Its applications span various purposes, including cell lysis to extract proteins or organelles, permeabilizing the membranes of living cells, and serving as a vital component in lysis buffers. Widely utilized in biochemical and cell biology research, Triton™ X-100 facilitates the isolation of lipid rafts, enhancing the solubility and dispersibility of substances. With a reduced polyoxyethylene content of approximately 10, this product exhibits excellent wetting properties and emulsification enhancement. In cell biology, Triton™ X-100 plays a crucial role in solubilizing membrane-bound proteins, preserving their native conformation in solution. Furthermore, Triton™ X-100 reduced, resulting from the full hydrogenation of the benzene moiety of TX-100 to a cyclohexane derivative, has been associated with potential benefits in enzyme digestion enhancement and effects on the photoisomerization of bacteriorhodopsin. The versatility of Triton™ X-100 in various research applications underscores its significance as a fundamental tool in biochemical and cell biology investigations. |
