Target description: Microtubule-associated protein (UniProt: F1MEW3; also known as MAP2) is encoded by the MAP2 gene (Gene ID: 281294) in bovine. MAP2 is a neuron-specific protein that stabilizes microtubules in the dendrites of postmitotic neurons. Its major function is to stabilize neuronal shape by promoting microtubule synthesis and cross-linking with other components of the cytoskeleton. Phosphorylation of MAP2 controls its association with the cytoskeleton and it is developmentally regulated. MAP2 can undergo phosphorylation by GSK-3 and p44/42 MAP kinase. Phosphorylation of MAP2 at threonine 1620 and 1623 by GSK-3 are reported to inhibits MAP2 association with microtubules and affect microtubule stability. MAP2 consists of at least three isoforms produced from a single gene: high molecular mass MAP2a and MAP2b, and low molecular mass MAP2c that is also known as the juvenile MAP2c, which is expressed only during early development and exists mainly in axons. MAP2a appears to replace MAP2c during growth and MAP2b is expressed throughout life. MAP2 can also serve as a marker of synaptic plasticity and its levels are observed to increase after traumatic brain injury. This ZooMAb recombinant monoclonal antibody, generated by our propriety technology, offers significantly enhanced specificity, affinity, reproducibility, and stability over conventional monoclonals.
