Biochem/physiol Actions: | Hypocalcemic hormone produced by the parafollicular C cells of the thyroid or by the ultimobranchial bodies of nonmammalian vertebrates. Decreases blood calcium and phosphate due to inhibition of resorption by osteoblasts and osteocytes. |
